PrestaShop multistore language switcher and hreflang

In a store running on separate language domains, a plain switcher that always leads to the homepage is not enough. Customers expect to stay on the same product, category or post after changing the language. Google, in turn, needs correct information about how the language versions relate.

Available languages:

AJIT Language Switch was built exactly for this multistore scenario. It generates real links to the counterparts of the current page, handles hreflang together with x-default and can skip a version whose translation does not exist.

Domain switcher with real links

The flags are not handled as an artificial redirect. They lead directly to the counterpart of the currently viewed page in the other store/domain.

Hreflang only for existing counterparts

The module generates hreflang pl-PL/en and x-default, but can first verify that the translation exists. Validation modes off, basic and strict are available.

Safe preparation of a new language version

A store can be set to noindex, which makes it easier to work on a language version before it is ready for indexing. The module also skips pagination and filters where they should not create incorrect hreflang pairs.

Resilient to unusual routing and caching

The custom route rendering engine does not rely on the Dispatcher or the Link::get*Link methods. The module handles PS_ROUTE_* rules per store, integrates with LeoBlog and can fix links in the head even with fragment caching.

The module is aimed primarily at multistore shops where each language runs on its own domain and where correct pairing of counterparts matters both for users and for technical SEO.

FAQ

Will customers land on the same product after switching language?

If a counterpart exists, the switcher creates a real link to the matching page in the other store.

Does the module add x-default?

Yes. It handles hreflang for the PL/EN versions and x-default.

What if a page has no translation?

Depending on the chosen validation mode, the module may not generate a link/hreflang to a non-existent counterpart.

What can you set in the module panel?

01 / Linking language versions

Linking language versions

Hreflang generation: Enables the tags for pages that have counterparts in other stores. The module does not replace the standard canonical of each version.
x-default store: Points to the default version for unsupported languages. It must be a store included in the module and not excluded by noindex.
Missing counterpart: You decide how the visible switcher behaves. A missing page gets no hreflang tag even when the switcher leads to the homepage.
Translation readiness check: You choose no check, a basic check or a strict one. A higher level requires more completed fields and may reject a copy of the source name and slug.
Hidden products and standard pages: You separately enable products hidden from listings and the mapping of standard pages, e.g. the contact page. The 404 page is not mapped.

Per-store settings

Activity, language and hreflang code: You choose whether a version takes part in the switcher, its active language and the language-region code, e.g. pl-PL.
Label and flag: A text such as PL and an SVG file define the look of a switcher item. Globally you can show the flag, the text or both, but not disable both at once.
Noindex for versions under construction: Adds noindex, follow to the front office of the selected store and excludes that version from hreflang. This affects the whole store version, not a single product.
